Seniors participate in mock interviews
In keeping a tradition of several years, on November 27 and November 28, members of Granville Rotary Club, augmented by both Granville and Pawlet neighbors, conducted mock interviews for approximately 72 Granville high school seniors. On behalf of the school, the scheduling of the event was coordinated by teacher Mr. Marc Lambert as a component of his English/Senior Seminar course. The interviews follow a format developed by Granville’s sister club in North Wales, Wrexham Erdigg. The format is comprised of the students’ presentation of their biographical data, their response to a series of questions regarding their interests (academic, sporting, and work) and other life experiences outside of school. Additional emphasis is placed on their hopes and plans for further education and/or job training. Students subsequently sit next to their interviewers who, with student input, complete an assessment sheet which the student then keeps as a reminder for future real life interviews, whether college or job related.
Besides students’ ability to understand and accurately respond to questions, they are also assessed on as personal neatness, ease of manner in talking to previously unknown adults, and eye contact. In conclusion, students are presented with a short brochure entitled “For Your Next Interview.”
Again this year, members of the senior class were quick to laud the mock interview program. Skylar Dorrer stated, “I appreciated the tips the interviewer gave me. I feel like I’ll now be more confident and ready for my next interview.” Jordan Cole echoed this sentiment, commenting, “This mock interview will help me in many ways when it comes to future interviews.”
The Granville Rotary Club is a member of Rotary International which is dedicated to service not only in the immediate locale of its member clubs, but also international projects.
A big thank you to the Rotarians who donated their time and expertise.
