Does your Granville CSD student enjoy or have an interest in building robots or programming? Do you enjoy challenges, problem solving, and competing on a team? Then the Granville VEX IQ Robotics team is the team for you! If your student will be going into Grade 4-6 in the Fall of 2025 and is interested in joining the robotics team, here is the link to the interest form to hand in by June 23rd.

The VEX Team will meet weekly on Tuesdays from 5:15-7:15 pm starting on Tuesday, August 5th. The season ends in March. There will be at least two competitions that the team will attend during January-March and they will take place on Saturdays. Those dates are TBD. As competition gets closer, additional team meetings may be added and our weekly meeting day may change to help accommodate sports schedules, etc.

Space is very limited for this team. Students will be selected based on admin and teacher recommendation. If your student is selected, you will be notified via email with further information and a parent/guardian meeting will take place before the first team meeting in August.

There are costs and travel involved to competitions. Parents/Guardians are expected to transport their student to/from the competitions (Queensbury, Lake George & possibly an additional competition) and purchase a team shirt. (Fundraising will be mandatory for all participants to help offset the cost of team registration, competitions and robotics expenses)

If you have any questions, please email VEX Advisor Mrs. Steves msteves@granvillecsd.org

9) Prevent the Summer Slide

summer slide stats 1
On average, students lose a month or more of academic progress in the summer, particularly in math and reading. Teachers must work extra hard at the beginning of the school year for the first four to six weeks to review old material before they can teach new material.

The solution?

Consider helping your student prevent the summer slide by doing 15 minutes per day of reading, math or other subject they enjoy with one of the free and fun apps and websites listed on this Community School page the GCSD website.

Alternatively, try an activity book like Brain Quest or one from the Dollar Store or Target and see if you can help your student do two to three hours per week in total (10-20 minutes a day adds up!)

You can also request free, summer activity workbooks by grade from the Pember Library inter-library loan system that provides access to all libraries in the Southern Adirondack Library System. All you need is a library card and a password. Here is the link to search the library system and be sure to select "search ALL LIBRARIES" for items that can be delivered to Granville's Pember Library at no cost.

Drop in to the Pember Library on 33 West Main Street, Granville to get a free library card: Tuesday 10-5, Wednesday 1-5, Thursday 1-5, Friday 10-5 and Saturday 10-1

Do you have a local resource or summer employment for GCSD students to add to our free and low-cost summer programing list, please contact krozell@granvillecsd.org
