Starting in the 2025–2026 school year, New York State will have new rules about using smartphones and internet devices in schools. The Governor has announced that New York will be the largest state in the country to make this change.
The goal is to create distraction-free classrooms that better support student learning and well-being.
As we prepare for this upcoming shift, we want to hear your thoughts on making the transition supportive for students, teachers, and families.
Your input will help us anticipate challenges, plan effectively, and ensure that this change enhances learning for all.
What’s Next?
On Monday, July 21st, 2025 at the Granville School Board of Education meeting, there will be a public comment period at the beginning of the meeting pertaining to the new policy.
School families, students and staff will have the opportunity to review the mobile phone policy and send in their questions, feedback and suggestions to help make this transition as smooth as possible.

This new guidance is coming from the Governor’s office and will apply to all public schools, charter schools, and BOCES in New York State.
