Granville Rescue Squad Vehcile

Ever wonder who’s behind the wheel of the ambulance or wearing the heavy gear at a fire scene? Often, it’s your neighbors and it could be you, too.

Volunteering with our local rescue squads and fire departments is a great way for teens to grow and experience hands-on learning.

You’ll learn how to stay calm when things get hectic, how to work as a team, and how to lead others. Plus, it looks great on a job application or a college resume because it shows you aren’t afraid of hard work.

Whether you want to become a healthcare professional, mechanic or a professional firefighter one day, or just want to join other helpers doing good things in your town, volunteering in emergency services gives you a massive head start.

Most importantly, volunteering instills a lifelong sense of service and civic duty that benefits both the individual and the community.

If you are an active member, Granville Rescue will pay for your New York State EMT classes. That’s professional training at no cost to you!

To be an "active member” you just need to volunteer about 12 hours a month.

The Junior Member Program (Ages 16-17)

Not sure if you’re ready? The Junior Program lets you test the waters.

You’ll be the third person on a crew, acting as an extra set of hands and learning from a mentor.

Safety First: You are there to learn. You will never be left alone with a patient and will always have an experienced pro by your side.

Monthly Training: Every month, the squad holds classes on different medical topics. It’s a great way for drivers and juniors to learn how to better help the medics.

Getting Certified

The Granville Rescue Squad will sponsor your EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) course.

Note: New York State says you must be at least 17 years old by the end of the month you take your exam.

Getting your certification can lead to a stable, rewarding job right after high school!

How do I join?

  1. Here is the link to fill out an application.

  2. The Ride-Along: Before you join, you’ll do one 6-hour "ride-along" shift. This lets you shadow the crew and see what the job is really like.

  3. The Meeting: The Squad holds meetings every month to talk with new applicants and welcome them aboard.

Local Fire Departments

If you’d rather handle a hose than a stethoscope, our local fire departments are looking for juniors (ages 16–18).

These programs focus on safety and the basics of firefighting.

It’s a tough, rewarding way to show leadership in your hometown.

Where to go: We are lucky to have several great departments in our area

How to get started:

Most departments hold their training on Tuesday nights after 6:00 PM.

You don’t need an appointment—just stop by, introduce yourself, and tell them you’re interested in the Junior Program. They’ll be happy to show you around!
