Good Afternoon Jr/Sr High Families: This is to inform you that the Granville Jr/Sr High school will conduct our two final emergency response drills within the next week. Before our drill, staff will talk to students about procedures, explain what to do, and why their actions are important. After the drill, staff will reassure students that they are safe. This drill is conducted to ensure that, in the unlikely event of an emergency, our school community is prepared and knows how to stay safe. Thank you, Granville CSD

Good Afternoon Granville CSD Families, A number of districts in the capital region are seeing an increase in Chromebook damages based on a TikTok challenge. The person in the TikTok video encourages students to insert metal objects in the USB ports of the Chromebook. This could cause a short circuit, which would damage the Chromebook and possibly spark a lithium battery fire. This would require a school evacuation and the fire department being called to assist. As with any other intentional damage, students will be charged to replace the device in addition to the possibility of criminal charges of arson and vandalism. A few of the districts in our region have sent communication out to parents making them aware of this issue and Granville CSD wanted to be sure families were made aware of this as well. Below is a link to a news story about the Tik Tok challenge. https://www.wfsb.com/2025/05/05/dangerous-tiktok-trend-has-students-forcing-paper-clips-pushpins-into-chromebook-devices/ Thank you, Granville CSD RESOURCES Visit InternetMatters.org for Media and Internet Safety Checklists and Conversation Guides by Age, Platform and Concern Use parental controls like Apple’s "Screen Time" or Google’s "Family Link" to set app and device usage limits Set Up "Family Pairing" on TikTok - This allows a parent/guardian to monitor their student’s use and safety on TikTok

From Principal Taylor:

Dear MJT Families,

As required by New York State Education Law, the students and staff at MJT will be practicing “Evacuation Drills” and “Lockdown Drills.” We will begin our Spring drills next week, and will conduct these drills over the next few weeks.

Each type of emergency drill is explained below:

EVACUATION DRILLS
In an “Evacuation Drill,” the school community will practice the procedure of safely leaving the building. Students will be guided to a designated safe area outside and then brought back inside once the drill is complete. These drills help us ensure that everyone can evacuate calmly and safely in an emergency.

LOCKDOWN DRILLS
The purpose of a “Lockdown Drill” is to practice keeping everyone safe from any danger outside or inside the building. During this drill, all doors inside and out of the school building will be locked and no one will be allowed to enter or leave until the drill is completed. Students and staff will remain inside locked classrooms until released by law enforcement and/or our administrative staff. Announced clearly as a drill, this exercise helps everyone practice responding safely and quietly in the event of an emergency.

As a reminder to guardians/families:

You will not be permitted to enter the building during a drill, and no phone calls to the main office will be answered during this time.

If you are dropping off a student or picking up a student while a drill is in progress, you will need to wait outside until instructed otherwise by school personnel.

After the drill, you can support your child by helping them understand why we practice and prepare by conducting drills.

Please remember that conducting these safety drills can help maintain our schools as a safe place to learn and work.

Please reach out with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Breanne Taylor, MJT Principal
